Our annual show with CAC will take place on Saturday 28 June 2025, as always at the grounds of Lihos (Melbergstraat 1, 3600 Genk).

Our judge for both breeds is Scottish breed specialist

Louise Bartolo (Starlenga).

She writes about herself as follows:

My story in rough collies began before I was born, in the late 1970’s, when my parents had purchased a puppy from Charles & Janette Philip’s of the Philjanco kennel. A year and two collies later, Margo & Garry Walker, in 1979 they embarked on their first show experience and were hooked & Starlenga Collies was established!

I arrived into the world 4 years later and although this should have somewhat deterred them from their pursuit of the hobby, they had taken to their hearts, it did not and I therefore grew up ringside, watching the craft as a toddler!

The first show dog, owner specifically by me for the Starlenga kennel, came in 1994 in the form of Tanryn Blue Sonnet, a gorgeous girl by an Erjon male and and a Lynaire bitch, she was everything to me! She was a blue merle, with silver tones and the most loving nature - we were inseparable! We did relatively well in the showring, but she often played second fiddle to her kennel mate, a Fortissat bitch, who was a true show girl and loved every moment in the spotlight. This sable won many an accolade with numerous BOB, BIS and group placings at well attending breed & general open shows. From this bitch, we were able to produce Starlenga Robin Hood JW and in turn of first ever Challenge Certificate awarded to us in 1998, under Alan Clarke (Lynway). He went on to win 2 CCs and 2 Res CCs, but unfortunately did not make his title.

Life can be busy and after a short break for motherhood for several years, upon returning and after numerous dogs on 2 CCs (it was a standing joke for a while as we had 4 dogs all receive 2 plus extra Res CCs!), I made up my first Champion, Starlenga All About Me, a tri colour bitch bred on from mainly French lines - a day I shall never forget! Unfortunately, soon after this, due to poor family health we had to take a step back from the showring and breeding.

I judged my first open shows in 1999 and awarded my first set of CC’s in the uk 2023, last year I then awarded CAC’s in Madrid. Being in the position to offer such awards is a great honour, not one taken lightly and knowing the exhibitor on the other side of the card will have that elated feeling of pure joy, their efforts rewarded, makes the role a very valued one!

Although my time inside the ring has paused, my love and excitement for the rough & smooth collie, the admiration for their elegance and intelligence remains unhindered, still enjoying to attend and watch shows from the sidelines.

I am very much looking forward to judging for the Collie Association of Belgium this June, a show which has always caught my eye for the high quality entries and welcome offered to its exhibitors!

More details on entries and lunch options will follow later.
